Hands holding a light bulb

An integral part of my intellectual life

Jeoffrey Sarpong

I discovered Gresham College through an Instagram advert. The algorithm got it right – I was immediately hooked! Here was an institution offering free, high-level lectures on everything from neuroscience to military philosophy – delivered by leading professors. It seemed a goldmine of insight, open to anyone willing to learn.

What makes Gresham College unique is the sheer range of subjects on offer. Whether it's history, psychology, mathematics or the arts, there's always something to spark your interest. When I attend lectures on topics I didn’t even know I was curious about, I find myself walking away buzzing with questions and ideas.

I’m currently a volunteer at Gresham College, and I see that role as a small way of giving back to a place that’s given me so much. I truly believe in making knowledge accessible and engaging to everyone – especially at a time when education can feel overly transactional. Gresham College proves learning doesn’t stop after university.

I run a podcast and write poetry – both outlets that allow me to dive into complex ideas and express them creatively. The lectures I attend often influence my work, inspiring episode topics or poems. Gresham College has become an integral part of my intellectual life, a place where learning is pursued for its own sake.

I recommend Gresham College to every curious person. Whether you’re a student looking to broaden your academic horizons, a professional seeking insight or simply someone who loves a good lecture, there’s something for you here. Start with a topic you already love, then wander. That’s where the real magic happens.
